Catheter obstruction occurred in 9% of dogs, typically within a median of 38 days post-surgery. No significant associations were identified between obstruction and evaluated variables, including age, sex, breed, body weight, ventricular size, catheter position, preoperative medical therapy, or CSF parameters. Postoperative CSF analysis revealed marked increases in cell counts, protein, and red blood cells, peaking within the first week and gradually declining by three months. Histological examination of obstructed catheters showed blockage due to inflammatory infiltrates, fibrin, and choroid plexus cells.
